Pearl Paradise Akoya Bracelet Giveaway

pearls

PearlParadise.com is the world's largest online pearl company that offers high-quality genuine pearls at affordable rate for everyone. The pearls you will find are the same as the ones in your local jewelry store, but for half the price. These pearls will make the perfect present for your wife this Christmas, and won't break the bank. Get her what she WANTS!

Pearl Paradise offers a wide variety of jewelry from the Akoya pearls, which I chose, to the more exotic Tahitian and South Sea varieties. The company has worked hard to grow into the multi-million dollar online store it is today. It's reputation is recognized by the Better Business Bureau, so you have no worries in buying a fake. When you get your pearls, you'll also receive a certified appraisal to guarantee your purchase.

Here's a little information from Pearl Paradise about my akoya pearl bracelet. Akoya pearls are treasured for their perfect shape and reflective shine. They come from a small oyster known as the Pinctada fucata, or akoya. The saltwater Pinctada fucata oyster lives along the coasts of Japan and China. A bead is surgically implanted into the gonad of the oyster along with a small piece of mantle tissue. The oyster coats the bead with layer upon layer of beautiful nacre. These relatively small pearls range from 2 to 10 mm.

My Grandmother is Slipping Away

I've tweeted today about me going to the emergency room to have something done about my IUD. I've got to schedule a visit to have it removed. I've learned that the severe bleeding and cramping is normal for up to 6 weeks. I'm already exhausted from bleeding this long, and I'm choosing not to put up with any longer. When I had it put in, I was told a week, maybe 2 tops and the pain and bleeding would subside. I can't deal with this crap another month. But anyways, this isn't about me.

My grandmother has been in the nursing home for 20 days evaluation. She's not been able to go home due to her dementia/Alzheimer's. Last week she came down with pneumonia. Yesterday she was placed on oxygen and had a conversation with my aunt. She told her she wasn't going to live much longer. My Granny is a strong-willed person and was always a tough old lady. :) But, she doesn't have the will to live anymore. They say elderly people just know when it's time. I'm not sure if she'll be here much longer.

She's now in the hospital. She didn't recognize me or my husband last week, and she didn't really know who my mom was this evening. My aunt works in a nursing home and sees death all the time, and she told me my grandma has lost the life in her eyes.

I'm really upset and worried right now. This is where I vent my real feelings and wanted to voice my pain here. My grandmother raised me when I was a little girl. Her home was my favorite place to be. As the years have gone by, my grandpa and uncle passed away, but she's still hung around, healthy and active. Over the past year, she has really gone downhill. The doctor won't release her to go home in her state.

In the past, she's told my mom and aunt that if she ever has to go into a home, she won't make it. She won't eat. Since breaking her hip last month, she's lost 10 pounds. She's less than 100 lbs at the moment. I don't know if the hospital will keep her tonight or send her back to the home. I'm going to go visit her tomorrow, and want to the boy's to see her. I don't know if that's a good idea though. But, she helped me with them when I was in school, and like any grandparent, adores the kids. What should I do?

Target and Walmart will have a new tech-inspired inspirational book out this Christmas perfect for the 8-12 year old boy. That's for you to find out!

Part graphic novel and part advice book, The Boy's Book of Positive Quotations includes inspirational quotations from the real-life heroes boys know and respect---including rock stars, skateboarders, BMX'rs, Hollywood celebrities, tech gurus and more. A Century Of Flavor Cookbook Giveaway

Vanilla is used in many mouthwatering desserts year round, but with the holidays coming you'll probably be using this flavoring more than any other time of year. I recently discovered A Century of Flavor from Nielsen-Massey Vanillas. Inside you'll find yummy recipes using, you guessed it, vanilla. The pictures are so vivid and recipes easy to follow, any one could make.

For me, vanilla is used mainly in desserts. I don't cook exquisite meals on a daily basis. I'd love to, and my hubby would agree, but my kids would probably starve. They are quite picky, so I leave the gourmet entrees for holidays and special occasions.

I'm in love with some of the recipes featured in this cookbook and the website. Here's a recipe you can try now that is to die for!

Pumpkin Ginger Pancakes

Ingredients:

2 TBS. butter, melted
1 large egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk, room temperature
2 TBS. Nielsen-Massey Madacasgar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
1/4 cup Walnuts, natural, crushed to tiny pieces
1/8 cup Ginger People crystallized ginger, crushed to dust size pieces
2 TBS. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups King Arthur Pumpkin Pancake Mix

Garnish: fresh sliced pears and maple syrup

Preparation
Melt butter over a low heat. In a medium size mixing bowl, mix first eight ingredients melted butter, egg, salt, milk, Vanilla extract, walnuts, crystallized ginger and cinnamon. On a medium speed, slowly add pumpkin mix, blending together until mixed. It is OK if batter is a bit lumpy.

On a preheated hot skillet, place 1/4 cup of batter for regular size pancakes or one heaping tablespoon for mini pancakes, allowing room in-between each. When small bubbles appear on the top, flip over for 30 seconds or until cooked through. Remove and serve with slices of fresh pear and maple syrup.

The deliciously interesting cookbook combines recipes from the Nielsen family collection as well as recipes from chef friends attracted to Nielsen-Massey's quality vanilla extract. Contains a delightful collection of bakery and pastry recipes and teaches how vanilla can be essential in a savory dish. Written for the novice cook as well as the seasoned chef, everyone can find something in this book prefect for the holidays.

Buy it: A Century of Flavor can be purchased at Amazon and Barnes and Noble for $23.89.

Santa's Picks HGG The Popcorn Factory Giveaway

The Popcorn Factory, a leading gourmet popcorn and edible gifts company, is celebrating 30 years of delicious, fun gifts that delight families, friends, children and business customers. In honor of its 30th anniversary and National Popcorn Month, The Popcorn Factory has launched a “30 Gift Giveaway” sweepstakes. The sweepstakes, which runs now through November 23, 2009, will provide one lucky grand prize winner with 30 gifts for their friends and family (up to a $6,000 value) just in time for the holiday season.

To enter, just fill out the short form on the company's website here.

My family recently had the opportunity to try out a sample tin of popcorn from The Popcorn Factory with three flavors- cheese, butter, and caramel corn. The three varieties are much more fresh tasting than the tins you buy at your local grocery store during the holidays. I myself loved the sweet, crunchiness of the Caramel corn the best, but my kids love the cheese. I'd definitely give this as a gift to family, friends, or co-workers this holiday season.

The Popcorn Factory continues to bring life and fun to consumers with its endearing gift items and delicious products. In recent years, The Popcorn Factory also has been featured on The Food Network, the TODAY Show, YouTube and iVillage.com.
